GENERAL APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
New England Conservatory is one of eight schools participating in the Unified Application for Music and Performing Arts Schools. Please use this online application, available at www.unifiedapps.org, to apply for both admission and scholarship/financial aid.
Spring 2009 applications are due on November 1.
We are accepting spring applications for all degrees and majors except for bassoon and freshman jazz drums. Please note that we do not accept spring applications for the Artist Diploma, D.M.A., or chamber music programs.
Fall 2009 applications are due on December 1.
We will be accepting fall applications for all majors.
Required Supporting Materials:
The following supporting materials are required of all applicants. Items that are starred (*) are submitted via our online application; all other items should be postmarked by December 1. Please click on the links below for details and note that some requirements vary depending on the intended major or degree level.
- application fee of $100 U.S. *
- writing sample *
- artistic résumé *
- repertoire list *
- letters of recommendation
- prescreening recording, if required
- official transcripts
- any additional supporting materials as required by your program

Standardized test scores (SAT/ACT/GRE) are not required for any applicants.
All instrumental and vocal applicants must perform an audition. Applicants to composition, music theory and musicology must submit appropriate materials for review. Please visit the Audition for NEC pages for information about these requirements.

Our website and online application are the easiest ways to gather information about the application process and to submit an application. If you are unable to apply online, you may instead download and print our paper application here. Downloadable application instructions are also available. Please submit either the online or paper application, but do not submit both.
If you choose to print and mail your application, the required supporting materials (as listed above) may be submitted with the application or under separate cover. All items should be postmarked by December 1.

FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION
In order to receive financial aid, applicants must complete and submit the NEC
Financial Aid Application. This form is included in the online Unified Application for admission. Those students who submit a paper application must download the financial aid form and submit it with the admission application. In
addition, all U.S. citizens and permanent residents should file the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please see the Financial Aid section of our website for further details and instructions.
All materials submitted in support of an application to New England Conservatory become the sole property of New England Conservatory and will not be returned, duplicated or distributed in any other way.
