Why do I give?

“Skills, confidence, poise aside—the NEC Preparatory School has also been the place where my son has developed a lasting love for the most sublime music.”
—Rose Skolnick, parent

Rosario (Rose) Skolnick and her husband, Alan Skolnick, have a lot on their plate. Alan is a cardiologist whose practice keeps him on the go. The Skolnicks have moved from Andover to Brookline the hard way: by restoring an historic home.

But their real priority is their children. With their older children in college, their focus is on encouraging the musical talent of their youngest, 11-year-old Murray Skolnick. Murray is a member of the Junior Repertory Orchestra who has studied violin and piano at NEC’s Preparatory School since he was seven years old. He also takes theory and composition lessons. Parents could not give a better gift to a child than the freedom to develop his love for music.

NEC Prep is central to the Skolnick family’s life, and Rose acknowledges this with her participation in NEC’s Board of Visitors and her involvement in planning Kids in Harmony, the Prep fundraiser gala. Now in its second edition, Kids in Harmony looks like the up-and-coming NEC event, as Prep parents come forward to support it, inspired by the enthusiasm of volunteers like Rose.
