Winner of the 1983 New England Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions, Marquita Lister has attained popular and critical support for her performances of Aida, Porgy and Bess, Cosi Fan Tutte, and Don Giovanni with Berlin, Stuttgart, Houston Grand, Boston Lyric, and New York City Opera. In 2006, Lister extended her ownership of the role of Gershwin's Bess with her participation in a recording of Porgy & Bess that reflects Gershwin's final changes made for the work's 1935 Broadway premiere.
