Alumni Profile: Vaughn Monroe '35

Vocal Performance

One of the most renowned bandleaders and popular male vocalists of the 1940s and 1950s, Vaughan Monroe studied voice at NEC in 1935 and spent the early years of his musical career in the Boston area. Monroe is probably best remembered as the host for many years of the radio and television program "Camel Caravan." His signature tune was "Racing with the Moon" but other memorable hits include "There I've Said It Again," "Ballerina," "Let It Snow, Let It Snow," and "Mule Train." During his heyday, he was the winner of four Gold Records, five Number 1 hit singles, and had 25 songs in the Top 10.

NEC's Library Special Collections houses a collection of radio recordings and performance materials used in the "Camel Caravan" programs. In addition, NEC has a large collection of memorabilia from his career, including newspaper clippings and photographs.
