Lani Bortfeld ’77 established the Suzuki Talent Education Partnership, an outreach ministry of Faith United Church in Springfield, Mass, in 2002. The program provides a musical education for children who play string instruments and helps find scholarships for students who do not have sufficient means. Lani is also active as a freelance violinist and is a member of the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra and the Arcos/iris Quartet. 1/12/08 |

Fred Hersch ’77 had a CD released on Naxos that is the first recorded collection of his through-composed concert works. It features pieces such as 24 Variations on a Bach Chorale and Lyric Piece for Trio. Also included are two sets of solo piano pieces and Tango Bittersweet for cello and piano. 1/12/08 |

George King, Jr. ’77 M.M. was appointed Head of School at the Moravian Academy in July of 2007. He formerly worked at Wooster School in Danbury, Conn., where he was Headmaster from 2003 to 2007. At Wooster, he implemented an inclusive strategic plan, increased educational technology, and led the school in a curriculum mapping initiative. During his tenure, the school increased and exceeded its annual giving goals, in addition to reaching out to alumni and parents in new ways. George currently lives in Bethlehem, Pa. 11/20/07 |

Bart Marantz ’77 M.M. served on the faculty at the Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony in August of 2006. He is also the Director of Jazz Studies at the Booker T. Washington HSPVA (located in Dallas, TX), which recently won a grant, “Peer to Peer Thelonious Monk Jazz Program” for 2006/2007. The school leads the Down Beat Student Music Awards for North America with 176 awards to date, and it counts as its alumni musicians such as Roy Hargrove, Erika Badu, and Nora Jones. 7/3/07 |

Vocalist Sophia Bilides '77 recently
released a new CD Winter Warm at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston and Danny's Skylight Room in New York. The Boston Globe as describes the CD as "a new cure for winter darkness and as bracing as a shot of brandy." The CD offers a spicy mix of cabaret, jazz, folk, musical comedy, and American songbook to provide hope, comfort, and humor for the chill challenged and daylight deprived.
