Jazz French hornist and composer Tom Varner ’79 moved to Seattle in the fall of 2005 with his wife Terri and his children Jack and Hope. Tom is enjoying the rich Seattle music scene, playing in many different settings with NEC alums Greg Campbell ’92 M.M., Gred Sinibaldi ’95, Michael Brockman ’82 M.M., Steve Treseler ’03, and others. Recent work has brought Tom to Rotterdam, Vienna, Switzerland, Vancouver, and Moscow (Idaho). Tom will record his next (12th) CD in April, 2008, a new work for tentet titled Heaven and Hell, which will be premiered at the Seattle Art Museum. The piece was conceived at a stay at the MacDowell Colony in 2003. 3/28/08 |

Linda Watson ’79 debuted as Ortrud in Lohengrin at La Scala in Milan, Italy. She also performed as Brunnhilde in Die Walkure in Washington, D.C. There she performed alongside Placido Domingo. In the summer of 2007, she returned to Bayreuth and performed as Brunnhilde in The Ring. She lives in Orinda, Calif. 1/12/08 |

Harry Chalmiers ’79 M.M. is the new president McNally Smith College in St. Paul, Minn. He formerly was Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Berklee College of Music, and he had his own arts consulting group called the Chalmiers Group. He has composed music in a wide range of styles and instrumentations. He has performed as a guitarist and singer in the Born Bluezers and as a guitarist with Indian Hill Symphony Orchestra. He will be commuting to his new job from Harvard, Mass., where he lives with his wife and child. 11/20/07 |

Akira Tana '79 has relocated to the San Fransisco Bay area after 20 years in New York. He continues to be active on the international jazz scene, teaches at San Fransisco University, and conducts clinics and masterclasses sponsored in part by Yamaha Drums and Vic Firth Sticks. His recent CD, Secret Agent Man, with the Asian American Jazz Trio, can be found on the Songs of Sound record label. Tana's most recent CD, Moon Over the World, was also released on the Sons of Sound label. Akira currently lives in Belmont, Calif. 9/18/07 |

Donna Regis ’79 has recently returned to playing accordion in concert after a 20-year absence from performing. In April of 2006 she performed for children and adults at the Malden (MA) Public Library. For this occasion, she composed “Theme and Variations On ‘Three Blind Mice,’” which was well received. She has been invited for recurring appearances by numerous organizations in the Northeast. Donna performs regularly for the New Hampshire Accordion Association, of which she is a founding member. 7/3/07 |
