"Waltzing The Splendor," by Claire Ritter '88 Pianist, composer, and educator Claire Ritter ’88 released a new CD, Waltzing the Splendor.  The CD features pieces written by Claire, including Four Jazz Serenades for Georgia O’Keeffe Op.23, and four jazz works composed for and inspired by Thelonious Monk. NEC Visiting Artist-in-Residence Dave Holland performs on one track. All About Jazz calls Ritter an "undersung jazz master" and says of this CD that "Ritter is all about short, succinct statements, finely crafted." Ritter currently lives in Weddington, N.C. 1/31/08
  Chris Chalfant ’88 M.M. and Christian Pincock ’00 were fellows at the 2007 Omi International Musicians Residency Program. The program was held in Ghent, N.Y. for 18 days, where musicians were invited to collaborate and experiment. Omi culminated with a free concert of new music. In addition, Chris Chalfant performs in the new film New Adventures in Folklore. The segment in which he performs was featured in a performance by the Light Surgeons at the re-opening of Royal Festival Hall in London. Also, the book Notations 21 will feature Chris’s music and “Book of Unstandards” Scores and CDs will have recordings of Chris’s music. 11/20/07
Claude DiDomenica ’88 released an album, Loyal Dissent, which in 2006 received four Honorable Mention awards in the 13th Billboard World Songwriting Contest. 7/3/07
  Sebastian Elliott’s ’88 band Braindance has been receiving rave reviews as a groundbreaking force in rock, creating a new genre dubbed Progressive Darkwave. They have so far released two full length albums and an EP, and they plan an upcoming release of their newest album, Master of Disguise. 7/3/07
  David Howard ’88 M.M., ’90 M.M. traveled with the Berklee College of Music International Programs to the 2006 Umbria Jazz Festival in July of 2006. There he taught classes and clinics, and he performed during the two-week event. 7/3/07
John Medeski ’88 and Matthew Shipp have released an album, Radical Reconstructive Surgery with hip-hop producer Scotty Hard on Shipp's record label, Thirsty Ear Recordings.  They are joined by bassist William Parker, drummers Nasheet Waits and Mauricio Takara, and DJ Olive. 7/3/07
  Trombonist Brett Shuster ’88 has been busy performing internationally with the Louisville Brass and as a soloist. Brett plans to release his first solo CD on the Albany Records label in 2007. 7/3/07
  Dianne Winsor ’88 M.M., principal flutist of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Castilla y Leon in Valladolid, Spain recently completed a concert tour of South America and the Dominican Republic with the OSCyLeon. Winsor is one of six NEC alumni in principal positions with the OSCyLeon including Marius Diaz-Lleal ’90 M.M., ’91 G.D.Nestor Pou ’89, Jennifer Moreau ’85, ’87 M.M., Robert Blossom ’84, and former NEC student Jose Redondo. 7/3/07
Jindong Cai '88 M.M., '89 M.M. recently published a book with his wife, Sheila Melvin, entitled Rhapsody in Red: How Western Classical Music Became Chinese. Cai is Associate Professor and Director of Orchestral Studies at Stanford University. 3/19/07
