Kenneth Amis ’93 M.M. gave the world premiere of his “Concerto for Tuba” at an MIT Wind Ensemble concert in March 2007. He is the Assistant Conductor of the ensemble, as well as the tuba player of the Empire Brass. He lives in Norwood, Mass. 1/13/08

Frits Kamp ’93 G.D. has been singing operatic roles all over the world. He performed at the Teatro Municipal in Chile, with the Greensboro Opera, and the Boston Concert Opera, to name a few. He has been living in Munich since 2000, and there he has had a number of performances including Schumann’s Dichteriebe, Verdi’s Rigoletto and Mozart’s Don Giovanni (with Lyrisches Opernensemble in Dachau), and a touring children's version of Rossini's Cenerentola (with International Opera Festival Gut Immling).  He recently made his debut at the Gasteig Music Center in Munich, singing contemporary music such as “Der Tod” in Viktor Ullman’s opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis. Frits has been praised by the press for his musicality, warm voice, and impressive acting skills and comic talent. 1/13/08

Pianist and composer Kerry Politzer ’93 is taking a musical detour from her instrumental jazz roots with the release of her fourth album, You Took Me In. In addition to writing ten and co-writing one of the eleven songs with lyrics, the pianist makes her debut on vocals. The CD also features veteran jazz musicians Lonnie Plaxico (Cassandra Wilson, Nellie McKay) on bass and pianist George Colligan on trumpet, drums, and synthesizer. 11/20/07
Alison Bazala Kim ’93 recently received her D.M.A. from the University of Maryland. She is currently teaching at Anne Arundel Community College, Hood College, Columbia Union College, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. She performs with the Annapolis and Alexandria Symphony Orchestras as well as playing chamber music with the JooBaLee Trio and other groups. Alison was married on June 25, 2006 to Jung Woo (Jay) Kim, who works as an examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 7/3/07
Last fall, Joan Landry ’93 was appointed Assistant Conductor of the North Carolina Symphony. 7/3/07
  Violist Matthew Phillips ’93 M.M. qualified to run in the 2007 Boston Marathon. He is currently a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. 7/3/07
  Eric Valliere ’93 M.M., ’00 D.M.A., Director of the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, highlighted a number of NEC alumni during the 2006/2007 season. Christian Knapp ’95 conducted The Planets in October, Sergey Schepkin ’92 A.D., ’99 D.M.A. performed a piece by Rachmaninoff in February, Sabrina Learman ’91 M.M., ’96 G.D. premiered newly commissioned works in April, Elizabeth Keusch ’98 M.M., ’01 A.D. sang Mozart in March, and Irina Muresanu ’98 A.D. performed Brahms in April. 7/3/07
David Spelman ’93 was the curator for the first annual Adelaide International Guitar Festival, in Australia. David is also Artistic Director and Co-Founder of the New York Guitar Festival, the festival that acted as a template for the Adelaide event.
