Aviram Freiberg ’97 has been performing with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra since 2002, and has been the acting 3rd/1st horn since 2007. Previously, he has played with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra during the 2001/2002 season. As a singer, he performs in recitals and as a soloist with Israeli orchestras and choirs. He also composes, and his one-act opera Ketem (“Stain”) was performed five times in November and December of 2007. Aviram holds his M.M. in Musicology from Bar-Ilan University, which he received in 2005. Recently, he has started playing the harp, an instrument he has always wanted to play since very early childhood. Aviram lives with his partner, his adopted Guatemalan child, and two dogs in a village in the northern part of Israel. 4/2/08 |

Eyran Katsenelenbogen ’97, ’00 G.D., a member of NEC's Preparatory and Continuing Education jazz faculty, performed across Europe during his CD release tour for his new album Solotude. He has received positive reviews for his new release in JazzPolice, All About Jazz – New York, and All About Jazz, among others. In addition, Lakme, composed by Eleanor Malick and performed by Eyran Katsenelenbogen on their CD Just For Fun, was featured on the Jazziz On Disc CD that was distributed by Jazziz magazine’s annual Piano and Keyboard issue in November 2006. Eyran toured Germany with acclaimed pianist Andrei Ivanovitch in October. They will perform classical (Ivanovitch) and improvised (Katsenelenbogen) movements to Mussorsky’s Pictures At An Exhibition. Eyran also anticipates the release of a solo recording 88 Fingers, which was made possible with funding from NEC. Eyran lives in Boston, Mass. 1/13/08 |

Koji Nakano ’97, ’99 M.M. had his piece, Time Song II: Howling Through Time, premiered in the Four Generations of Asian Composers concert at the Asia Society in New York in May, 2007. The piece was written for female vocalist, flutist, and percussionist. In addition, soprano Stacey Fraser gave a lecture/recital of the piece during the 2007 Music of Japan Today Symposium at the College Music Society National Conference in Salt Lake City, UT in November, 2007. Koji received 2007-2008 residency fellowships and grants from the MacDowell Colony, the Corporation of Yaddo, the Millay Colony for the Arts, the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, and the American Music Center. In 2008, he will be the Composer in Residence for the Japanese Spring Festival at the UN International Theatre in NYC. Koji currently lives in Boston, Mass. 1/13/08 |

Drew Edward Davies ’97 has been appointed Assistant Professor of Musicology at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. This follows the completion of his dissertation “The Italianized Frontier: Music at Durango Cathedral, Español Culture, and the Aesthetics of Devotion in Eighteenth-Century New Spain” at the University of Chicago. Drew is also the regional coordinator for the Musicat project at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. 7/3/07 |

Sean O’Loughlin ’97 M.M. has been writing and arranging various projects for the L.A. Philharmonic and their partner group, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Through them he was hired to work on shows for the Blue Man Group, a Scottish rock band called Belle and Sebastian, and the band Pink Martini. In addition, he was hired by the Boston Pops to write a new holiday overture called Christmas Canticles. The Pops featured it as the opening to their PBS TV special in December of 2006.
