Pianist Sarah Bob ’99 M.M., with John McDonald (piano), Sofie Campesino (oboe), Biliana Voutchkova (violin), and NEC alumnus Aaron Trant ’01 M.M. (percussion), will perform the world premiere of Resin in Resonance by NEC faculty member Michael Gandolfi ’79, ’81 M.M. The performance will take place on November 13 at the New Gallery Concert Series, for which Sarah is the Artistic Director. The premiere was made possible by private donors and the New England Foundation for the Arts and Meet the Composer. Sarah recently completed a four-performance tour in Switzerland, where she performed Lior Navok’s (’98 M.M., ’01DM) solo piano cycle, The Old Photo Box. Sarah’s recording of the piece is now available on CD. 10/24/08 |

Anthony Barrese ’99 M.M. has just been appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of Opera Southwest in Albuquerque, N.Mex., beginning the 2008 – 2009 season. “Maestro Barrese made a splendid debut as guest conductor for last season’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro, so we were eager to have him join the permanent leadership of OSW. We were excited when he accepted this position,” said NEC alum David Bartholomew ’67 M.M., now in his third year as Artistic Director of OSW. Anthony has earned accolades as both a composer and conductor, winning numerous awards for his original works and being engaged by a number of opera companies in the U.S. and Italy. Recent engagements have been with Boston Lyric Opera, New Hampshire’s Opera North, and Sarasota Opera where he served as Associate Conductor for the 2003 – 2004 season. He has also served as Assistant Conductor for Dallas Opera. In 2007, Anthony was the recipient of Solti Foundation Award. He currently lives in Arlington Heights, Ill. 7/31/08

Rick McLaughlin ’99, ’05 M.M. has been a member of the Grammy-nominated jazz group Either/Orchestra for over 10 years, resulting in performances worldwide. Recently, a DVD has been released which documents the first ever performance between the Either/Orchestra and the great Ethiopian singer Mahmoud Ahmed (Ethiosonic: Mahmoud Ahmed and the Either/Orchestra). The band, along with Ahmed, Ethio-Jazz founder Mulatu Astatke, singer Alemayhu Eshete, and tenor saxophonist Getachew Merkurya, has recently traveled to the UK to perform a sold-out show at the Barbican in London, and to headline the Jazz/World Stage at Glastonbury, which was broadcast on the BBC. Rick began a relationship with AlterEGO Instruments in 2007, endorsing the Acoustic Double Bass line, and recently joined the Gallien-Krueger family of artist endorsers. Upcoming performances include headlining the Jazz & Ribs Festival in Coumbus, OH, a concert at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, a not-to-be missed performance at Lincoln Center in NYC in August, and headlining Festival of World Cultures in Ireland at the end of August. Joseph Tighe ’99 M.M. has been teaching Orchestra in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He has also been playing in the Hilton Head Symphony since January, 2008. Joseph continues to perform with the New Bedford Symphony (Mass.), the New Hampshire Symphony, and the Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham, Mass., as well as various other jobs with his “Boston Top Brass & Strings” ensemble. 7/31/08 |

Donna Shin ’99 M.M., ’00 G.D. has been appointed flute professor at the University of Washington School of Music after holding faculty posts at the University of South Carolina School of Music and Oklahoma State University. She frequently appears as artist-performer and master class clinician at universities and flute clubs throughout the country, modeling the artist-teacher path for young flutists. She has recently been featured in solo performances with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, and the University of South Carolina Wind Ensemble, among others. In the summer, Donna performs as an artist-teacher at the Bay View Music Festival in Michigan and as a course director for an Italian study abroad program in music. She currently lives in Renton, Wash. 7/31/08 |

Claudia Campazzo ’99 M.M. was accepted for graduate studies at Antioch University New England in Keene, N.H. She is pursuing a Master of Education with a concentration in Integrated Learning. Claudia is also a teacher and Outreach Coordinator for the Brattleboro Music Center. Claudia is currently living in Brattleboro, Vt. 1/13/08 |

In the summer of 2007, drummer Jeff Marrs ’99, ’03 M.M. performed with the Mitch Marcus Quintet at the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival in San Francisco. The band recently released a new album, The Special. Jeff lives in Concord, Calif. 11/20/07 |

Roberta Gambarini ’99 has been receiving accolades for her most recent album, Easy to Love, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2006. Originally from Italy, she was recently the first international musician to perform at the new Live@Courthouse in Toronto, Canada. She was interviewed on AllAboutJazz.com in the fall of 2006. 7/3/07 |

Barbara Quintiliani ’99 was featured on ABC-Channel 5’s Chronicle in October, 2006. The program highlighted young, up-and-coming Bostonians – Barbara is a rising star in the opera world. In addition, Barbara has recently performed Bach’s wedding cantatas with the Boston Classical Orchestra. 7/3/07 |

Anthony Radford ’99 M.M. completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in voice from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December of 2005. He is currently Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Lethbridge, Alberta. Anthony has recently worked with NEC faculty member James MacDonald at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Intern program at UMKC. 7/3/07 |
