Violoncello, Orchestral Repertoire
Since joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra's cello section at the age of 19, Ronald Feldman has received critical acclaim for a wide variety of musical achievements. Increasingly in demand as a conductor, Feldman was appointed assistant to Boston Pops conductor John Williams in 1989, a position he held until 1993. Feldman has appeared as guest conductor with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Quebec Symphony, the Springfield Symphony, the Saint Louis Symphony, the George Enescu Chamber Orchestra and most recently with the London Symphony Orchestra. Feldman has appeared as cello soloist with many orchestras performing a wide range of concerto repertoire from Dvorak to Ligeti. His many chamber music affiliations have included performances with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, Collage New Music Ensemble, and the Boston Conservatory Chamber Players. His performances include collaborations with artists Emmanual Ax, Garrick Olsen, Gil Shaham, and Yo Yo Ma. He is on the faculties of Williams College, The Boston Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, and The New England Conservatory. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y and a graduate of Boston University, Feldman's teachers have included Joseph Emonts, Claus Adam, Lorne Monroe, and Harvey Shapiro. In September 2001, Feldman joined the faculty of Williams College as Artist in Residence ending a distinguished career with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Twice winner of the American Symphony League's ASCAP Award for Adventuresome Programming of Contemporary Music, Ronald Feldman has achieved critical acclaim for his work as conductor. He appeared as guest conductor with numerous ensembles including major orchestras such as the Boston Pops Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Saint Louis Symphony as well as many regional orchestras including the Pro Arte Symphony, Springfield Symphony, Albany Symphony, the Amarillo Symphony, and the Quebec Symphony. After successful appearances as Guest Conductor for three consecutive seasons at Symphony Hall and at Tanglewood, where he substituted for John Williams, Maestro Feldman was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra. He served as assistant to John Williams from 1989-1993.
Feldman currently directs the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra, a regional orchestra in residence at Williams College. He was formerly the conductor and Music Director of the New England Philharmonic and the Worcester Orchestra. He is on the faculties of Williams College, the New England Conservatory of Music, The Boston Conservatory of Music, and the Berklee College of Music. Feldman appears on a compact disc recording of an all-Mozart program with the Bucharest "George Enescu" Philharmonic. This CD received excellent reviews in the March/April 1999 issues of the American Record Guide and Fanfare Magazine. He also appears on a recently released CD of music of John Williams and Kevin Kaska. This recording is with Arturo Sandaval and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2002, Feldman left the Boston Symphony Orchestra to join the faculty of Williams College where he is Artist in Residence, Lecturer in Music, Director of Ensembles, and Conductor of the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra.
