James Hoffmann (1929–2001)

As a member of the Music Theory faculty since 1964, and chair of the Undergraduate Theory department for 12 years, James Hoffmann taught most of NEC’s alumni of those decades, including many current faculty. Hoffmann himself was also an NEC alumnus, class of 1951. A composer, he was cofounder of NEC’s Enchanted Circle concert series in 1977.
