Franziska Huhn
Harp
Franziska Huhn began studying the harp at age 9, and at the age of fourteen, she took first prize in the prestigious German competition Jugend Musiziert.
Huhn came to the United States to study on a full scholarship with Lucille Lawrence at Boston University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 2000. She received her Master of Music degree (2002) and Graduate Diploma (2003) with highest honors and distinction from NEC studying with Ann Hobson Pilot. In addition, she has the distinction of being the first harpist to receive the Artist Diploma from NEC, as well as the Gunther Schuller Medal.
She has participated in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (led by Claudio Abbado), the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, the Spoleto Festival, and the Tanglewood Music Center, where she returned as a Fromm Player, a program for outstanding alumni, performing contemporary music. Since 2003, Huhn has been Assistant Director of the Harp Seminar at Boston University's Tanglewood Institute. She plays regularly with the Walden Chamber Players, Radius Ensemble, Boston Philharmonic, Collage New Music and Mistral, and since 2001, she has been a regular substitute harpist with the BSO. Huhn has given solo concerts throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, Syria, Pakistan, and in Germany. She has performed several times for that country's president. In addition, composers Daniel Pinkham and Lior Navok have written solo works for her.
