Herb Pomeroy coached jazz ensembles at NEC from 2002 through 2007. Pomeroy studied music at Schillinger House in Boston, which later became the Berklee School of Music. The bop-ish trumpeter gigged with Charlie Parker, Lionel Hampton, and Stan Kenton. Pomeroy recorded both with Serge Chaloff, and as a leader for the Transition label. Pomeroy began teaching at Berklee in 1955, and was on its faculty for 40 years, touching the careers of scores of young jazz greats. Additionally, he also taught at the Lenox School of Music while leading a local orchestra filled with his own students. Pomeroy recorded as a leader of big band sets for such labels as Roulette, United Artists, and Shiah. In late 1996, he recorded a CD for the Arbors label with singer Donna Byrne.
