Elizabeth Rowe
Elizabeth Rowe joined the NEC faculty in 2005. She was appointed Principal Flutist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2004, after having held positions with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the New World Symphony. A native of Eugene, Oregon, Rowe received her Bachelor of Music degree in 1996 from the University of Southern California, where she studied with Jim Walker, former Principal Flute of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She also participated in several national and international music festivals, including one summer spent as a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. An experienced soloist, Rowe was awarded first prize at the National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition in 2000. She has been featured in concerto performances with orchestras throughout the country, including recent performances of Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp with BSO Principal Harpist Ann Hobson Pilot and the Boston Classical Orchestra. She will be making her solo debut with the Boston Symphony in August of 2008, performing Mozart's Flute Concerto in G Major. Rowe is a dedicated educator and has served on the faculties of the Peabody Institute of Music, the University of Maryland, and Catholic University. In addition to her orchestral work, Rowe enjoys chamber music and can be heard regularly in performances with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players.
