An active freelance director and a highly respected teacher, Patricia-Maria Weinmann has worked for many national opera companies and festivals including Utah Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Central City Opera, Opera Boston, Ashlawn-Highland Festival, the American Opera Project, Mississippi Grand Opera, the Tanglewood Institute, and the Boston Classical Orchestra. Recent engagements include Daniel Pinkham's The Cask of Amontillado, Four Saints in Three Acts (co-direction) for the Boston Conservatory, the premiere of Wheeler's Democracy for the American Opera Project in New York, and H.M.S. Pinafore, L' Italiana in Algeri and Rodgers and Hammerstein'sSouth Pacific for Opera Boston. Other recent engagements include the staged, orchestral premiere of Scott Wheeler's The Construction of Boston that was prominently featured on WGBH-TV's "Arts Boston." In August 2004, Weinmann directed Utah Opera's production of H.M.S. Pinafore to critical acclaim for the inaugural Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City, Utah. For the festival's 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons, Weinmann returned to Utah to direct The Mikado,The Pirates of Penzance and The Gondoliers. In February 2008, Weinmann directed Utah Opera's regular season's offering of Cenerentola and will return to Utah this summer to remount H.M.S. Pinafore for the Deer Valley Festival. As a director for Utah Opera's Young Artist Program, she continues to train some of the country's most talented young singers. In 2006, Weinmann directed NEC's production of Cosi fan tutte at the Cutler Majestic Theater, The Barber of Seville for the Seagle Music Colony, and Naomi in the Living Room by Jonathan Holland for the New Gallery Concert Series, Boston, and Dido and Aeneas and Les Malheurs d' Orphee presented for NEC in Jordan Hall. Most recently, Weinmann directed Hoiby's Bon Appetit for Opera Providence and will direct NEC's production of Cole! this spring.
