Auctioneers Lisa Hughes and Jonathan Soroff

Lisa Hughes is the Edward R. Murrow Award-winning weekday news anchor for WBZ-TV. Since her arrival in Boston in 2000, she has covered just about every major news event in New England.

Jonathan Soroff is feature writer/social columnist for The Improper Bostonian, where he asks impertinent questions of famous people like Matt Damon, Yo-Yo Ma, John Williams, and Maya Angelou.

These items will be auctioned off by auctioneers Lisa Hughes and Jonathan Soroff midway through the Feast of Music dinner.

1. Viva la Musica Maravillosa! Venezuelan Flag Jacket signed by all the members of the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, including Gustavo Dudamel and Maestro José Antonio Abreu! You and a guest will attend Gustavo Dudamel's December 2008 performance in his new role as conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The evening will include an NEC ensemble of your musical preference and will be catered by the award-winning Quince Bistro and Catering of Needham, Mass. Quince is a contemporary bistro offering inspired cuisine expertly prepared with seasonal New England ingredients.

But here's the fun- Dinner and décor will reflect and enhance your musical choice! Is your preference an NEC jazz ensemble? Dinner might be flavored by the Creole tastes of Bourbon Street in the old New Orleans style. Or an NEC string quartet? A candlelit 18th Century Viennese supper might be in order. What about an Opera evening? Consider an Italian meal using olive oil made from olives hand-picked by Tony and Kitty Pell from ancient olive trees from the house in Tuscany they co-own and pressed nearby at a thousand year old mill. Silent Auction Items


1. Cocktail Party of "Note" - A rare culinary opportunity! One of Newport's finest caterers, Russell Morin, will bring his culinary expertise to your home. His expertly trained staff will prepare an elegant cocktail party for 20 in your own home, featuring a delicious selection of passed hors d'oeuvres and artful and appealing stationary landscapes of food. Your guests will delight to a performance by one of NEC's ensembles for their exclusive enjoyment.

Russell Morin will provide servers, chefs and staff. They can also provide wine for an additional charge, or you may choose from your own wine cellar.

Event to be arranged for a mutually agreeable time and must be booked at least two weeks in advance. Dishes, linen, glassware, etc. are included. Gratuities are not included, and additional guests may be added at the winner's expense. Some blackout dates apply.

3. Tanglewood Tour de Force - Recreate your very own summertime Feast of Music by attending the 6th Annual Wine and Food Classic along with prime seating at Tanglewood. Your Feast includes:

  • A meal at exclusive Seranak, the former home of Koussevitzky, which overlooks the Berkshires and the Tanglewood Bowl. 
  • Accommodations at the fabled Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, Mass. for the nights of Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9, 2008.

You will have an opportunity to meet Stefan backstage after the performance.

4. Date with a Diva : Four tickets to Boston Lyric Opera's new production of Donizetti's enchanting love story L'Elisir d'amore  (The Elixir of Love) on Opening Night, Friday, March 14, 2008. The performance was created by award-winning designers for Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Colorado and San Francisco Opera. The performance features an international cast and the debut of NEC Opera Alumna (and performer as this year's A Feast of Music 2008 vocal soloist), Ji-Young Yang as Gianetta. This lovely soprano, a member of the prestigious Adler Program at San Francisco Opera, made her SFO debut this season. While at NEC, she appeared in leading roles in several opera productions, including Little Women, Gianni Schicchi and Cosi fan tutte. Ms. Yang was a New England Regional finalist in the Metropolitan National Council Auditions in 2006. Join A Feast of Music Co-Chairs at an exclusive BLO pre-concert dinner at the Four Seasons along with your Amore and another couple. After the performance, you are invited to join the post-opera cast reception also at the Four Seasons. At the cast reception, you and your friends will have your pictures taken with members of the cast. 5. Some Enchanted Evening: The elegantly furnished mansion constructed in 1805 has been called "the Monticello of the North" and architectural historians consider it to be the most significant Federal period mansion in New England. Fashioned after English and French buildings, Gore Place features an interplay of geometric shapes, carefully laid out oval parlors, and neoclassical ornamentation adapted from the buildings of ancient Greece and Rome. The historic Governor Gore Estate offers the Great Hall for a special spring concert on a date of your choice by an NEC performer. Your gift includes VIP priority seating for 10 of your guests at the concert. To enhance the historic ambiance of the performance, an 1820 Broadwood piano forte can also be made available if requested. Before the concert, you and your guests will be treated to an insider's tour of this magnificent historic estate by an expert guide. Enjoy a private pre- or post-concert reception in one of Gore Place's charming period rooms. Concert must be held on a Monday-Thursday date between March 1, 2008 and May 29, 2008. Although this is an intimate concert, there will be other concert attendees in addition to your party.

Choose one of these special occasions for a delectable dinner for two at renowned chef Jody Adams' Rialto restaurant!

Auction Bidding Instructions

1. Bidding will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will end promptly at 7:25 p.m.

2. Each item on display has an accompanying bid sheet. Please print your name and daytime phone number clearly next to your bid in the space provided. If you are increasing your bid, you only need to write your name and bid amount.

3. Predetermined bidding increments are printed on each bid sheet. If these increments are not adhered to, bidder may be disqualified. The items follow the same order as in the catalogue. Full descriptions of all items may be found in the catalogue listings.

4. If there is no expiration date listed, the certificate or package expires one year from February 23, 2008.

5. Winners of the Silent Auction items will be contacted during dinner.

6. There are several auction items on display that will ONLY be available during the Live Auction, which will take place during an intermission before the main course of dinner.

7. All items must be paid for by the end of the evening.

8. Payment for items may be made with cash, check, Discover, Mastercard or Visa. All purchases are final and no exchanges or refunds will be made.

9. When bidding, please be sure to read the item description carefully. Certain restrictions may apply.

10. New England Conservatory does not appraise or estimate the value of auction items. Donors have provided estimates.

11. Please consult your tax advisor for rules concerning the deductibility of auction items. Generally, the excess of the bid amount over the estimated value is deductible, and no deduction is allowed if the bid is below the estimated value.
