NEC in New York Scholarship Gala

New York City is home to many New England Conservatory alumni, parents, and friends. This spring, NEC acknowledges its New York presence with a gala event that will raise scholarship funds for students from the New York metropolitan area. The gala fundraiser will include a cocktail reception followed by dinner and performances by some of NEC's top faculty and students. Outgoing NEC President Daniel Steiner will be honored at this year's event.

Before and after the dinner courses, Master of Ceremonies John Rubinstein introduces performances by jazz pianist John Medeski '88 DP, NEC's award-winning Parker Quartet, and members of the NEC faculty: vocalist Dominique Eade, cellist Paul Katz, violist Carol Rodland, mezzo-soprano Heidi Skok, violinist Lucy Stoltzman, pianist Irma Vallecillo, and violinist Donald Weilerstein, who occupies NEC's Dorothy Richard Starling Violin Chair. Juilliard President Joseph W. Polisi will also speak.
Actor/singer/composer/director John Rubinstein--the son of pianist Arthur Rubinstein--made his Broadway debut in 1972 in the title role of Pippin. In addition to his film roles, he has appeared on dozens of television's most popular programs from the 1960s ("Dragnet") to today ("Law & Order").

New England Conservatory and outgoing president Daniel Steiner have strong roots in both New York and Boston. Leading up to NEC’s May 11 New York Scholarship Event honoring Steiner, a Leadership Dinner in Boston on May 4 also celebrated Steiner’s legacy and included the announcement of the Daniel Steiner Presidential Endowment Fund.
