Other Tax-Wise Gifts
A Retained Life Estate (RLE) permits donors to keep their home or farm for as long as they choose while also making a future gift to NEC. When the home comes to NEC, it will most likely be sold, with the proceeds used according to your wishes
A RLE works well when:
- Your home will not be used by family members in the future. You live in it for life or until you are ready to move out, after which the property comes to NEC.
- You would benefit from a significant charitable income tax-deduction. In fact, if you create a RLE and later choose to move out of the home, you will get two charitable-income tax deductions from your property.
- Your family members do not want the challenges of keeping the home, including upkeep, taxes and insurance.
- You wish to keep your liquid assets (cash, securities, IRAs) to maintain your lifestyle, but wish to make a gift to NEC.
