SUMMARY:
- Counsel students and parents on all aspects of financial aid administered by NEC and external sources of financial aid including: the financial aid process, financing options, loan consolidation and debt/default management.
- Administer changes in student loans according to student requests and/or eligibility changes.
- Assist the Director with Title IV FFELP, PLUS and Alternative loan administration including: independently certifying, awarding, exporting and reconciling Alternative and PLUS loan applications in accordance with federal regulations, reconciling all award loans versus disbursed loans via web-interface and retrieving, interpreting and uploading electronic response files from student loan servicing agencies.
- Reconcile all posted aid disbursements with the Business Office. Assist in resolving aid processing and payment problems as well as answer inquiries regarding aid and payments.
- Assist Business Office in verifying the tax status of international students/employees. Reconcile Federal Work Study payroll to General Ledger, produce IRS 1042S forms and analyze changes in treaty benefits for student workers.
- Facilitate aid processing for all aid programs including answering inquiries regarding aid and payments, assisting Director with data management for processing new financial aid applications and coordinating institutional publications geared toward educating students and families on student financing matters.
- Coordinate and perform Stafford Loan Entrance and Exit Counseling processes for students. Monitor the College's compliance with meeting federal documentation reporting requirements with loan guarantors and servicers. Oversee all due diligence efforts surrounding delinquent and defaulted loan statuses.
- Perform student file verifications by reviewing student and parent tax information/worksheets and making necessary corrections to students' files.
- Work with Director to draw down federal loan histories for graduating students and assemble comprehensive default management techniques.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the financial aid field.
- Demonstrated understanding of federal need analysis (FM) and student loan certification.
- Familiarity with student loan vendors, guarantors and servicers is helpful.
- Experience with PowerFAIDS (financial aid management software) preferred.
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and internet.
- Strong organizational, written and oral communication, analytical and record-keeping skills.
- Demonstrated customer service experience with efficient and effective delivery of services.
- Rigorous attention to detail and follow-through and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Familiarity with music and/or a conservatory environment is helpful.
- Demonstrated experience or interest in working with students preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Employee must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: works well with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor.
