SUMMARY:
- Handle, manage and/or oversee all administrative matters for SCE pertaining to courses and ensembles including: class size, class lists, collecting and mailing of grades, space scheduling, and performance management.
- Supervise the Director of Summer School (DSS) in carrying out all responsibilities regarding the administration of the Summer School program, especially: content and pricing of new courses and institutes, getting approval for college credit/course codes, getting registration information to college students, and providing faculty contracts as well as summer payrolls to the Administrative Director (AD).
- Provide ongoing program advisement for all SCE students.
- Assist Department Chairs with private studio placements for adults, especially certificate students. During the summer session, assist DSS in handling private lesson placements for Department Chairs who are out of town.
- Work with Department Chairs and studio teachers to recruit and admit students into all certificate programs, maintain accurate records of students' progress through the program, and oversee permission for studio-for-credit, evaluations and final recitals.
- Work with international student coordinator in securing I-20 forms for international students.
- Revise and prepare copy for the SCE yearly catalog. Work with PR & Marketing office in designing, printing and mailing the catalog in a timely fashion (by early August at the latest), and getting in on the NEC website immediately thereafter.
- Oversee, manage and revise as necessary the SCE curriculum including certificate curricula, courses, small and large ensembles, and private lessons.
- Appoint an SCE Curriculum Committee to meet each semester to advise on accreditation issues, certificate revisions, adult evaluation procedures, permission for earning studio credits, required levels for certificate recitals and possible new courses and ensembles.
- Working with PR & Marketing, create a public relations and recruitment program including media coverage, advertising, brochures and flyers of course offerings and certificate programs.
- Oversee work study student assistant in acknowledging registrations, making student ID cards, maintaining bulletin boards and SCE files as well as tracking how students heard about programs (from registration forms).
- Distribute May SCE Student Evaluation Forms that server as annual progress reports for adults taking non-credit studio and, as required, evaluations for certificate students taking studio for credit.
- Plan, develop and coordinate workshops, recitals and other special events specifically for SCE.
- Plan, develop and coordinate several short one- or two-day specialist seminars for adults, e.g. for amateur chamber music players, choral directors, song writers, jazz ensembles, etc.
- Act as liaison with College Dean's Office and Registrar's Office regarding credit issues, hiring of College faculty and "cross over" courses.
- Proceed with the accreditation of certificate programs as full-time courses of study which would enable them to qualify for foreign student visas, government grants and veterans' benefits.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience required.
- Conservatory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of applied and academic music curriculum.
- Ability to work closely with various constituencies including faculty, staff, and parents.
- Ability to advise and encourage students.
- Ability to promote growth.
- Knowledge of IBM computers and Microsoft Office Suite; PowerCampus desirable.
- Employee must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: works well with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor.
