Mozart's The Marriage of FigaroDecember 5, 6 at 8pm; December 7, 3pm Bad boy Mozart catches nobility with its pants down. Don't miss this scintillating, sexy assault on authority. In the 18th-century world of Mozart and his librettist, Lorenzo da Ponte, the French Revolution hasn't happened yet—but there's a revolution in the bedroom. On the night of the marriage between two members of the serving class, Figaro and Susanna, their employer, the Count Almaviva, intends to exercise his droit du Seigneur with Susanna—a sort of institutionalized rape, and a betrayal of his wife, the Countess. Director Nic Muni promises to "make clear the extent to which the behavior of the characters is absolutely shocking and outrageous." The music comes from the instruments and voices of NEC's orchestra and cast of talented students. Conductor John Greer, chair of NEC's Opera Studies program, will keep Mozart's music flowing. Sung in Italian with English supertitles. Production portfolios: Costume designer Seth Bodie has captured the characters in wardrobe sketches befitting the mood of brooding Spanish paintings that have inspired director Nic Muni's production vision. View portfolio. Stage designer Caleb Wertenbaker continues this feel and brings one of the paintings literally into the room. View portfolio. $20/$16 students, seniors. Free with NEC i.d.
