Cosi fan Tutte

NEC Opera Theater
March 11–12, 2006
Cutler Majestic Theatre, Boston

With NEC’s director and chair of opera studies, John Greer, conducting and Patricia-Maria Weinmann directing, NEC honored Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 250th birthday with a weekend of performances of Così fan tutte (That’s the Way Women Are), aka The School for Lovers.

Supposedly this tale of deception was based on an actual scandalous incident that was the talk of the town in Vienna more than two centuries ago. But is it comedy or tragedy? The NEC team allowed Mozart’s music to set the tone, while updating the look of the production to Italy between the world wars.
