Children’s Choruses
Jean Meltaus, Director
The New England Conservatory Children's Chorus program is dedicated to providing vocal and choral education for a diverse group of youngsters ranging in age from 8-18. Drawing from communities in and around Boston and greater New England, the Chorus engenders a sense of musical community. Values of commitment, dedication, reliability and cooperation with others are emphasized. Rehearsals are based on ear training and musical standards of the highest artistic excellence. The chorus sings repertoire from diverse cultures in their original languages. Skills such as stage presence, memorization, music theory and sight singing are built. Each season features a performance of a work by a living composer. Emphasis is placed on individual contribution to a community which comes together for a greater musical goal.
