Who is NEC's student Health Insurance provider?

Since August 25, 2005 Koster Insurance has been the NEC contracted student health insurance provider for New England Conservatory.

When does the policy year begin and end?

Koster Student Health Insurance is renewed yearly.  The insurance year always begins on August 25th.  Students are therefore insured through the summer until 11:59 PM August 24th when the insuance year ends.

I already have insurance, how do I waive Koster?

If you have your own U.S. based health insurer and would like to waive Koster Insurance please read the instructions below and then follow this link to the student access page on kosterweb.com 

Instructions to waive Koster:

  • follow link above to the 'student access' page on the Koster website
    • create a user account: username and password
    • provide information that Koster will use to verify your identify including social security number, birthdate and your student i.d. # (found on NEC billing statement) 
    • provide information about your current insurance policy

Is the Health Center Fee Required?

All students who are living in the residence hall are required to enroll in the Health Center where they will recieve high quality primary care with no additional out of pocket expenses.  The BIDMC staff at the Health Center can also provide any necessary referrals for specialty care.  Naturally referral visits will be billed to Koster or your own insurance provider and will most likely require a co-pay. 

All students who are living off-campus are not required but are encouraged to enroll in the Health Center.  They will still recieve free counseling at our Health Center, but will not have access to primary care in the Health Center by our BIDMC staff.

Are all students required to have health insurance?

All NEC students are required to carry U.S. based health insurance.  All students are automatically enrolled in and billed for both Koster Student Health Insurance and the Health Center fee. 

How do I get my Koster student insurance card?

  • Student Insurance Cards for 07-08 will be mailed in early september
  • Student Insurance Cards may also be printed at the Koster website after August 25th.  You will need to create a username and password and follow the instructions.
