| Halfway to $100 million
goal |
As June 30 marked the end of fiscal year 2004, NEC's "Gift of Music" Capital Campaign roared past the $55 million level
in gifts and pledges, crossing the halfway point toward NEC's ultimate $100 million goal. Individual donors made gifts of all sizes, and foundation
grants allowed for full funding of NEC's Performance Outreach program and the school's first endowed faculty chair.

| Faculty, students
hailed at Convocation |
NEC President Daniel Steiner opened NEC's 138th school year on September 8 with Convocation remarks that reviewed NEC's
transformation over the past five years--the result of new faculty, increasingly talented students, and successful fundraising. "The heart of a conservatory
is its faculty and students, and by any measure our heart is very strong and healthy." In photo: This summer, violinist Donald Weilerstein became NEC's
first teacher to be recognized with an endowed faculty chair, thanks to the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation and Pete and Ginny Nicholas.
