NEC announces 2005/2006 opera season

New England Conservatory's 2005/2006 opera season includes Mark Adamo's Little Women, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, the ever-popular Perkin Opera Scenes, and a Kurt Weill song revue.

NEC's December production of Little Women, based on Louisa May Alcott's Concord classic, will mark the first time New England audiences can see this work fully staged and with full orchestra.

Follow details of the NEC opera season.

Guitarist Shepik joins NEC jazz faculty

Jazz guitarist and composer Brad Shepik will join the NEC jazz faculty at the beginning of the 2005/2006 school year. Shepik is a founding member of such ensembles as Tiny Bell Trio, Paradox Trio, Pachora, and BABKAS. His most recent recordings appear on the Enja and Songlines labels.

Shepik joins a jazz and improvisation faculty at NEC that includes pianists Ran Blake and Danilo Perez, drummers Billy Hart and Bob Moses, composer Bob Brookmeyer, and Visiting Artist-in-Residence, bassist Dave Holland.

Successful year end, thanks to you

NEC's Annual Fund smashed all records at the fiscal year's close on June 30, with $2,308,555 in contributions from 3,316 donors--a 12% increase in dollars and a 5% increase in donors over last year. NEC Update subscribers contributed to this phenomenal success, donating more than $4,000 online during the months of May and June.

There's more good news. An anonymous donor offered a $300,000 challenge this year, matching new or increased contributions to the Annual Fund from President's Ensemble members--donors of $1,500 or more. The challenge exceeded its goal, with $346,086 in new or increased gifts from 113 donors.

The Annual Fund is a crucial part of the Conservatory's commitment to excellence, bridging the gap between tuition and the cost of providing a highly individualized education to students. New England Conservatory is grateful for your support of this all-important fund.
