Shostakovich concert rescheduled

When eighteen inches of snow hit Boston on Sunday, February 12, and the storm qualified for "blizzard" status, most activities at NEC were cancelled, including the Shostakovich Centennial Celebration planned for that evening in Jordan Hall. The Shostakovich concert has now been rescheduled for Saturday, February 18, at 8pm. Tickets for the original February 12 concert will be honored for February 18.

While the composer's son, Maxim Shostakovich, has left Boston to attend to other engagements, he was present through the weekend and was able to coach the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in a rehearsal of his father's First Piano Concerto. Regular YPO conductor Benjamin Zander will take up the baton at the final performance on February 18, where he will also conduct the Fifth Symphony. Maxim also sat in on a rehearsal of the NEC Sinfonietta and offered comments on their performance of the Shostakovich Ninth Symphony, appearing on their February 15 concert conducted by John Page. Other performances disrupted by the storm have been rescheduled as well. You can find new dates by going to the original concert date on the Web and clicking on the words "GO TO RESCHEDULED."
