Big week for contemporary performance

NEC Summer School offers opportunities for intensive study in a wide range of topics. Because most of the intensive institutes are performance-oriented, this results in a wealth of concerts for Boston music lovers.

Starting June 19, Stephen Drury (in photo) produces six evenings of new music for piano and other instruments as part of his Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, starting with visiting composer/pianist Charlemagne Palestine, and continuing with a residency by composer Michael Finnissy, sponsored by the BnG Foundation. Palestine's visit is coproduced by Non-Event.

June 23 and 24 brings faculty concerts from Boston Bass Bash 2006: among the performers, David Murray and Rufus Reid.

Explore NEC's concerts and programs day by day.

What's a quodlibet?

When a quodlibet isn't "a musical medley or fantasia" (New International Dictionary of Music), it's an assortment of NEC news items. Such items as: Charles Schlueter's retirement from the BSO (in photo) ... an NEC student making waves at a competition ... or just a fun fact that has crossed the editor's desk.

Visit NEC Today, where you'll find the Quodlibet corner constantly updated; and get an RSS feed of the NEC Today pages to find out when something new has been posted.

Memories of Daniel Steiner

A page of the NEC Web site now houses information on our late president, Daniel Steiner (1933-2006). This includes links to news stories, obituaries, slide shows, speeches, and a guest book.

We will continue to add content, so bookmark this page for repeat visits.
