Fredericka King has appeared as the featured artist on Public Radio broadcasts, on television, and as soloist with several New England orchestras. She has been invited several times to participate in the Piano Texas International Academy and Festival Teachers Program in Fort Worth, Texas, playing in master classes and recitals, and in 2007 competed in their concerto competition for teachers. Her solo performances in Boston have included recitals at historic Jordan Hall, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the African Meeting House on the Black Heritage Trail.
Her interest in special areas of music has prompted her work in developing programs such as The American Way, a series of four concerts of American piano, vocal and instrumental music. Showcasing the works of greats such as George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, and introducing music by women composers and African American composers, the recitals were performed at Boston’s landmark Old South Meeting House. Her concerts also include the unique Performance Plus thematic programs in which she speaks informally of the composers, their life and musical-historical times, and the works she will perform.
King has performed as pianist and accompanist for the National Spiritual Ensemble, touring throughout the US and in Spain, and is a founding member of the group La Femme, La Femme, dedicated to the performance of chamber and solo works by women composers.
Her discography includes a recording of solo repertoire by Classical and American composers, A Born Pianist; a recently recorded three disc set titled Piano Classics for Young Listeners which she designed and produced, Chamber music of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor with the Coleridge Ensemble, and one of solo and vocal works by American women, Hooray for the Ladies!, recorded live, in concert, with the group American Classics.
In addition to her teaching as a member of the piano faculty at New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School, Fredericka is an Associate Professor of Music History at Emerson College and maintains a private teaching studio.
