Rick McLaughlin Rick McLaughlin, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA, has been heralded by George Russell as, "one of my favorite bassists," "electric and exciting" by Michael Nastos of Cadence magazine, and a bassist who delivers "firm yet discursive support" by Bob Blumenthal of The Boston Globe. In the fall of 2002, McLaughlin, along with fellow Either/Orchestra members Gregory Burk and Jeremy Udden, released a critically acclaimed CD featuring original music, jazz standards, and an adaptation of the 2nd Movement of Ravel's String Quartet. Since 1997 the bassist for the Either/Orchestra, McLaughlin appears on their most recent four CDs. In concerts around the world, McLaughlin has performed with Mulatu Astatke, Mahmoud Ahmed, Joe Lovano, Mick Goodrick, John Medeski, Danilo Perez, and John Zorn among many others. He can also be heard on recordings by Mimi Rabson, the Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra, and as a producer, Bob Moses's CD, Nishoma. Venues in which McLaughlin has performed include Regattabar (Cambridge, MA); Jordan Hall (Boston, MA); CBGB's (New York, NY); Bitter End (New York, NY); Knitting Factory (New York, NY); Tonic (New York, NY); Green Mill (Chicago, IL); Jazz Bakery (Los Angeles, CA); Le Scimmie (Milano, Italy); New Mississippi Jazz Club (Roma, Italy); Jazztone (Lorrach, Germany); Wasserwerk Bern (Bern, Switzerland). Festival performances have included the 2002 International Association of Jazz Education convention in Los Angeles; 2000 International Festival of Music and Dance on The Volga in Yaroslavl, Russia; 1998's Ancona Jazz Festival in Ancona, Italy; The Guimaraes Jazz Festival in Guimaraes, Portugal in 1998; The Boston Globe Jazz Festival in 1998 and 1999; Southern Thailand Jazz & Blues Festival, Thailand in 1996, and the 2004 Ethiopian Music Festival in Addis Ababa.
